ProPILOT is the INFINITI Driver Assistance system that helps make every ride safer, whether heading to the store or across the country. It uses radar, cameras, and sonar to watch for potential accident threats and warn you so you can avoid them. We’re going to take a closer look at some of these systems that you can have in your vehicle.

INFINITI Driver Assistance: Redefining Driving Safety

Blind Spot Information System

Blind spots have been around since the first automobiles, and they’ve always been a problem. These areas are difficult, even impossible, to watch when driving. If you’re changing lanes and have checked the road behind you, a vehicle could still appear unexpected from a blind spot, which could result in an accident.
Rear-facing radar continually scans the blind spots you can’t see and instantly alerts you if a vehicle enters one. If you’re not changing lanes, a warning light appears above the speaker on the relevant front door. If you are changing lanes, the light rapidly flashes as a warning and you’ll hear an alarm tone so you can turn back and avoid a collision. The system can also apply selective braking to assist you in moving to the lane center.

Lane Departure Prevention (LDP)

This system uses a camera to identify lane line markings and your position within them. If you start to drift toward another lane and aren’t actively steering, you’ll hear a warning sound. It will also apply selective braking automatically to pull you back toward the lane center.

Forward Emergency Braking

This feature uses a camera and radar to identify any vehicle ahead. If it detects a vehicle, it calculates the distance between you and the vehicle to determine if an accident risk exists. If an accident is possible, you’ll receive audio and visual warnings, and it pushes the accelerator pedal up. It also pre-charges your brakes, so when you release the accelerator, it engages partial braking.
If you don’t react to the warnings, it automatically applies hard braking to bring you to a stop, hopefully preventing an accident or reducing damage from an unavoidable accident.

Intelligent Cruise Control

You can set the cruise control function to maintain a specific speed, making it very useful when driving long distances on the highway. You can also set a following distance from other vehicles. A forward-facing camera will identify any vehicle ahead, allowing the system to maintain this distance.
If the vehicle ahead brakes, your cruise control reacts by applying braking to maintain the correct distance. Once the distance increases as the other vehicle speeds up, your vehicle will automatically accelerate.
